No Shame in Tooling Around: High School Auto Shop Prepares Students for Future in the Trades

At Vel Phillips Memorial High School, Miles Tokheim's Automotive Technology class is preparing students like senior Guadalupe Perez for a future career in the transportation industry. The program offers hands-on experience, equipping students with essential skills. Upon completion of a Youth Apprenticeship at Smart Motors Toyota, Perez will earn a state of Wisconsin certificate for Automotive Youth Apprenticeship. Additionally, as an ASE certified program, students receive a scholarship from the Wisconsin Auto and Truck Dealers Association, covering two years at Madison College, along with a full entry-level tool set.
