Background

This web page was created to keep the community informed of our work as we progressed through the naming process.

On behalf of the Madison Metropolitan School District, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the community for the thoughtful naming submissions received during the recent proposal period. Your engagement is vital in ensuring our school names reflect the history, values, and identity of our community.

The accompanying table provides an alphabetized list of naming proposals for Elvehjem Elementary School. To ensure transparency and adherence to District standards, each submission has been carefully evaluated against the established MMSD Naming Criteria:

  • Prominent national or local figures (must be deceased).
  • Locally significant geographical sites.
  • Places of local significance.
  • Ideas or concepts representing broadly respected community values.

Please note that in alignment with these standards and professional conduct policies, any submissions that were found to be profane, inappropriate, or nonsensical relative to the required criteria have been removed from this process.
