National Merit Scholars

Congratulations MMSD Scholars!

Focus, creativity, excellence—every day, our educators push our scholars to focus on their coursework, encourage them to embrace and express their creativity, and challenge them to demand excellence of themselves, in the classroom and out. These are among the core values that underpin MMSD’s strategic framework, and they’re ones that have been embodied by beneficiaries of the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP) since its inception.

This year, MMSD is incredibly proud to be home to more NMSP semifinalists (32, across La Follette [1], Memorial [11], and West [20] High Schools) than any district in Wisconsin, with West, specifically, educating the second-most Merit Scholar hopefuls in the state. The work that all of the students have done to gain this recognition has been exhaustive and impressive, and clearly demonstrates their commitment to both educational achievement and community betterment.

The 16,000-student-strong semifinalist field will be narrowed to 15,000 finalists in February 2023, with 7,250 scholarship winners ultimately announced across four separate press releases spanning April to July of next year.

Congratulations to our semifinalists!
