Renaming Ceremony of Lori Mann Carey Elementary School

On Feb. 24, 2025, the Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education approved the renaming of Southside Elementary to Lori Mann Carey Elementary School, honoring a dedicated education advocate who grew up on Madison’s south side.

Lori attended our schools, graduated from Memorial, put her own children through this district and then advocated for everybody else’s children — there’s something really profound about that. I also love the idea of the school having a strong South Side name.

Please Join Us for a Renaming and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Celebration

When: Friday, April 17, 2026, 5-7 P.M.

Where: Lori Mann Carey Elementary School 501 E. Badger Road, Madison, WI 53719

Event Details:

  • 5 p.m. - Doors Open
  • 5:15 p.m. - Ceremony in Gym
  • 6 p.m. - Guided tours by 5th graders, Self-guided tours are also available, Food and refreshments available in the cafeteria
