In the renovated forum area, construction of the new Grab & Go snack station and Tower Shop school store was completed over winter break. Construction crews are now shifting their focus to the next phase of renovations in the auto shop and the final portion of classroom renovations on the third floor.
Current renovation work includes the autos, metals, machining, and welding spaces, the new barber shop classroom, and the engineering and computer classrooms. On the third floor, the remaining math and science classrooms and bathrooms are being renovated.
We are committed to keeping you informed as we complete construction for the MMSD 2020 facilities referendum.
Updates on current and upcoming work:
- Building new masonry walls, demolishing the old mezzanine floor structure, and starting work on new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPF) infrastructure in the auto shop
- Continuing work on the new MEPF infrastructure in the third-floor classrooms
- Installing finishes in the third-floor classrooms, including drywall, paint, flooring, casework, and ceiling grid in the coming weeks
DID YOU KNOW? All the current and remaining phases of construction work at East High School are in the East Wing, which is the oldest part of the school that was built in 1922. To put that in perspective, these spaces were built when Warren Harding was the President, and both Hawaii and Alaska were not states yet!
