Summer Construction Phases Push Forward

Summer Construction Phases Push Forward

Welcome to the fall semester!

As summer break comes to an end, so too does our summer construction work at Vel Phillips Memorial High School. Renovations to classrooms on the first and second floors are complete with new lights, ceilings, paint, and flooring, and the bathrooms have been fully remodeled. The new concessions room off the cafeteria is complete, as well as upgrades to the finishes in the cafeteria and commons space.

On the exterior, sidewalks and pavement have been installed, and landscaping will soon follow. Temporary fencing has been removed in certain areas, allowing for regular traffic flow and drop-off for the start of the new school year.

Areas that remain under construction through the fall semester include the new commons space (formerly an outdoor courtyard), the auditorium, a small theater, and a handful of offices and bathrooms. Most of these renovated areas will be complete by the end of October, and the new commons will be complete by the semester break.

Upcoming construction activity:

  • Moving in furniture for the fall semester
  • Doing paint touch ups and installing doors in completed areas
  • Drywalling and painting the auditorium and small theater
  • Installing theater seating in the auditorium

Did you know? All classroom renovations at Memorial High School that were part of the 2020 referendum project are now complete and are ready for students and staff to kick off the new school year.
