Great progress has been made on the new commons space with the painting now complete, including the green accent walls. The polished concrete floors are finished, and the acoustic wall panels will go up shortly. The handrails and stairs are being installed this week. Over winter break, crews will start installing the new glass storefront leading into the library media center (LMC).
Outside, work continues on the new concessions buildings and locker room. Masons are making significant progress on the two concessions buildings and will move to the interior locker room space next. Structural steel will begin this month, starting at the south concessions building and moving north. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) teams complete rough-ins before pouring the concrete. West of the new concessions, the foundation for the new entrance to the stadium has been poured, including the exterior ramp walls. The concrete flatwork will follow later this winter.
Upcoming construction activity
- Installing glass storefronts and social stairs in the commons
- Beginning masonry work on the north concessions building
- Starting steel work on the south concessions building
- Continuing MEP work in the existing stadium locker rooms
DID YOU KNOW? Pouring concrete flatwork outside with Wisconsin winters can be tricky, but some techniques can help the process. To avoid pouring on frozen ground, concrete blankets can be laid down to retain some of the heat in the ground before a concrete pour. After the concrete is poured, concrete blankets can decrease the amount of time needed for the concrete to set and cure.
