Construction is nearing completion in the band and orchestra rooms, bathrooms, and several other spaces throughout the school.
The punch list was completed last week in several classrooms, which will be ready for staff and students soon. On the fourth floor, drywall is being hung and taped in the physics classrooms, and then the walls will be painted. Construction crews are also painting and installing finishes on the second floor of the welcome center.
Site work around the new welcome center is wrapping up. Crews are pouring the last bit of the concrete for the walkway and continuing the landscaping. Masons are also starting to lay brick over the exterior sheathing.
Upcoming construction activity
- Hanging drywall, painting, taping walls, and installing finishes in classrooms
- Installing the elevator that goes all the way up to the fourth floor
- Planning for the next phase of construction on the first floor, where demolition will begin in the coming weeks
DID YOU KNOW? The cement that binds bricks together is called mortar. If the mortar gets too cold, it lengthens the cure time, which slows down the bricklaying process. To avoid this, masons cover the skip hoist in plastic to help keep the mortar warm during colder weather.
Workers are finishing painting in the new welcome center and will install the flooring and ceiling grid next.
Landscaping around the new welcome center is wrapping up and crews are pouring the concrete for the sidewalks and rolling out grass seed.

The drywall studs on the second floor are almost complete, and then crews will start on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEPF) work.
In the fourth floor classrooms, all the drywall has been hung and the walls are being taped and sanded.
