Summer Construction Phases Are Complete
Construction crews completed eight phases of work this summer, just in time for students to return for the start of the new school year. Over the summer, construction activities inside the school included renovating bathrooms, Van Hise wing classrooms, and reconfiguring the former library and Van Hise gym spaces into new classrooms.
Over the course of the project, construction at West High School will take place through 20 phases of work, including renovations throughout the building, four new additions, updated athletic fields, and additional site work.
Ongoing construction activities
With school back in session, construction crews are focused on two phases of work inside the building, including renovations to the third floor north classrooms and the first floor locker rooms.
Outside the building, work continues for the new pool and gym addition along Regent Street and Highland Avenue. This addition is scheduled to be complete for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

This summer, two West High School students, CJ and Oliver, worked on the school’s Referendum construction project with Findorff and 1901 Inc., respectively. As youth apprentices, these students gained hands-on experience in the school within which they learn, allowing them to explore future career opportunities and start preparing for a career while still in high school.
