Standards-Based Learning in MMSD
The Madison Metropolitan School District is in the midst of a multi-year journey toward Standards-Based Learning (SBL).
This effort is designed to align all aspects of teaching and learning—curriculum, instruction, assessment, and grading/reporting—and to ensure a coherent progression of practices across all grades, 4K-12. The current implementation is focused on updates across high school levels to better align with standards-based systems used in elementary and middle school levels.
Our commitment to SBL is deeply rooted in our newly adopted district strategic framework, MMSD: Excellence Together, particularly our guiding commitment to lead with equity. This initiative ensures our grading systems reflect our core values and beliefs about learning, fostering a growth mindset, and cultivating a positive, motivating, and rigorous school-wide culture.
