The Black Girl Magic Conference is hosting a Spring session of the Sister Circles, virtual 4-part program of self-care that includes 1 hour breakout healing circles for 200 4th-7th graders who identify as Black, African-American, or Multiracial. All circles will be led by Black women from the community (who have completed MMSD background checks) who are trained circle leaders, social workers, therapists, restorative justice, educators, or other related fields.
The Black Girl Magic Sister Circles will begin on Monday, March 22 from 1:30-3:00 (1st 30 minutes will be an opening and then 1 hour in the circle) and continue on April 12th, April 19th, and May 3rd. Participation by the girls at these sessions will count as attendance for the school day (per the Elementary and Secondary Chiefs). We will provide a spreadsheet that will document attendance.
All participants will receive Black Girl Magic self-care bags. We will be coordinating a drive-thru pick up in the Central Office parking lot during the week of March 15th. We will send out details in early March.
- Please nominate girls from your school who identify as Black, African-American, or Multiracial. We ask that you select one staff member to coordinate registration at your school. The number of spots that your school is receiving is on this participant list.
- Please prioritize girls who could benefit from extra support.
- You can register a girl who participated in the first Sister Circles. The format will be the same but the content will be slightly different.
- Send this flyer (PDF, jpeg) and registration form to the students/families (or fill it out yourself). You can also help them register. We will follow up with the students with a Zoom link and further instructions. The sign up form needs to be completed by Friday, March 12th.
