Board members for the Madison School District are pleased to announce that they selected Dr. Jane Belmore as interim superintendent for the 2019-20 school for next school year.
“Dr. Belmore is widely respected in education and brings extensive experience in our district,” Board President Gloria Reyes said. “As a board, we are unified in our commitment to our district’s vision, goals and core values - and the work outlined in our Strategic Framework. We are excited to have Jane lead that work forward, and we are eager to engage with our community through the next school year to select a permanent superintendent.”
A former teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent in MMSD, Dr. Belmore brings more than 20 years of experience in Madison Schools. She served as interim superintendent during the 2012-13 school year, and has worked in Madison consulting on issues around education, early childhood and family development. She received her doctorate in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin Madison. She has also served as a professor and dean of the School of Education at Edgewood College.
“I am honored to be selected for this role, and I am energized to support the district’s staff, students and families this school year,” Belmore said. “Madison schools have a strong vision and core values in place, and I look forward to working with the board to move this work forward.”
Dr. Belmore's contract will be finalized at Monday's board meeting. She and current superintendent Jennifer Cheatham will work together through the summer to ensure a smooth transition and strong start to the school year.
