MMSD is reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill by expanding efforts in waste reduction, reuse and recycling. These practices promote environmental sustainability through responsible waste management and create a culture of reuse and recycling across all school buildings, programs and events.

Focusing on ways to reduce water consumption and install low-flow fixtures help conserve resources and cut emissions.

Connecting students with nature supports academic achievement, positive behaviors, stable attendance, reduced stress and physical activity. Outdoor education provides memorable, hands-on learning experiences and inspires students to become lifelong environmental stewards.

Prioritizing walkability and biking reduces traffic-related pollution and encourages physical activity. MMSD is also transitioning to clean transportation options to reduce emissions, promote student health and increase community resilience.
