Experiential Learning

Students who are currently working or engaging in regular volunteer experiences are eligible to enroll in the Tier-1 Work Credit course. Students may participate in this course for one year and earn up to ½ credit per semester (1 credit total).

This experience introduces students to the concept of employability (soft) skills, and how these skills are transferable to their future career goals. Students must work 90 hours per semester, and they also must submit assignments related to the soft skills development. 

Enrollment: Students may enroll in Work Credit in two ways:

1. Students interested in enrolling in this course must go through the JobReady platform found in Classlink. They should log in with their school accounts and submit a “Tier 1 Enrollment Form”. They will then be added to the Google Classroom and the course will be added to their school schedule.
2. Students can also talk with their counselor who can add them to the course roster, after which students will be sent an invite to the Google Classroom for the course.

Students who are currently working or engaging in regular volunteer experiences are eligible to enroll in the Tier-2 Employability Skills course. Students may take this course up to two years, and can earn up to 5 credits (¼ credit per 45 hours worked, minimum 90 hours).

Employability Skills builds upon the Work Credit concepts by providing students with more intentional and rigorous soft skills training and reflection. Students are required to participate in monthly workshops focused on skills and career development based upon established goals at the start of the semester, while also taking one course at school that supports those goals.

Employers (or volunteer coordinators) are also expected to submit a skills evaluation, one per year, highlighting students’ growth over time.

Second year students take on a leadership role and support first year students with reflection, goal setting, and are expected to engage in additional employability skills trainings to continue to build their skills.

Enrollment: Students interested in enrolling in this course must go through the JobReady platform found in Classlink.They should log in with their school accounts and submit a “Tier 2 Interest Form”. 

Students are not immediately enrolled in the course. Since employers are more involved in this process, an Education and Training Agreement (ETA) is required which will be sent to the student, their parent/guardian, and employer once the interest form is submitted.

Students can connect with their counselor for support in completing this process.

Once the ETA is completed, students will be added to the google classroom, and will have the course added to their schedule.

This is a dynamic opportunity for juniors and seniors to combine academic learning with hands-on, real-world experience.
