Meaningful careers start with a single opportunity. Guided by the Wisconsin Career-Based Learning (CBLE) framework, our mission is to connect MMSD students with high-quality Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences—both within our District Central Office and throughout the broader Madison community.

For students, this hub is a gateway to explore internships that align with their Academic and Career Planning (ACP) goals. These experiences allow you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in industries or career fields you are interested in.

To ensure every placement is valuable, we vet our opportunities against the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s quality standards. A true WBL experience offers:

Sustained, Authentic Work: Real tasks in real professional environments.

MMSD District Summer Internship Program

If you are a current MMSD high school student, you are invited to apply for a paid summer internship right here at our District Office. This isn’t just a summer job, it’s a chance to work alongside district leaders, gain professional employability skills, and strengthen your college and career applications.

Program Specifics

The program runs from June 22nd - August 13, 2026.
Interns are paid $15/hour and should expect to work around 20 hours per week.

Interview Timeline

Interview Timeline	Date
First Round of Interviews All students who apply will have a first round interview and can pick from multiple days/time slots	April 9th - 17th
First Round Notification Students will be notified if they have moved on to the second round	April 17th
Second Round of Interviews In person interview event. One-day only	April 22nd
Notification of Offer All students who have completed a second round interview will be notified if they have been placed or on the waitlist by this date	April 30th

MMSD District Summer Internships

MMSD district summer internships offer structured hands-on experiential learning, all while being paid!

Students are gaining valuable employability skills and gaining real-world experience with no prior experience required. These internships will help students explore interests in other careers, build professional skills, and strengthen college and job applications. Working within the district for many students is a no brainer because the work they do directly impacts the schools and provides students with a stronger sense of community.

My favorite part of my placement is going to the different schools and working with the people in all 4 high schools and Doyle. I really like switching it up, and every school was unique.

[It's] crazy to me how much future career ideas can change, I've jumped from wanting to be a pilot to a Computer Scientist to a Mechanic to an Engineer to (now) a Biomedical engineer.
