Back to School

Back to School - young student running up the steps of an elementary school with excitement

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! It is an absolute honor for me to serve you as Superintendent of the Madison Metropolitan School District. Our theme for this school year is “Leaning Forward Together” in excellence, equity, humanity, and intentionality.

Our work continues to be inspired (and guided) by the ideals and goals of our Strategic Framework. And we recognize the decisions we continue to make on behalf of students and families are of no small consequence. We are Leaning Forward Together in the best interests of our students, families, staff, and community.

On Wednesday, September 22, we will host our first Facebook Live session of the school year. I encourage you to tune in and use the chat feature to engage with us. Additionally, our Let’s Talk platform (mmsd.org/lets-talk) is a wonderful resource to share comments, compliments, concerns, or questions.

This school year, we continue to place a strong priority on providing ALL students with supportive, responsive learning environments centered around each individual student’s academic and social-emotional needs. We are also placing particular and intentional emphasis on Goal 3, as our district makes strides on the journey toward becoming an anti-racist district.

I am inspired by the many people I encounter who are unwavering supporters of the school district, and have nothing but pride in our mission and for our #MMSDfamily. As such, we remain committed to academic excellence, equity, safety, and community service as we embrace the critical role our schools play in the lives of every student and our community.

Thank you for your continued partnership, and once again, welcome to the new school year!

Sincerely,

Carlton D. Jenkins, Ph.D.
