Leopold Community School Coordinator Named ‘Women of Distinction’ Honoree by YWCA Madison

Leopold Elementary Community School Resource Coordinator Cindy Diaz was recently named a 2025 Women of Distinction by YWCA Madison, an annual award honoring women who are making lasting change in their communities through leadership, service and social justice.

Diaz was nominated by MMSD Community Schools Manager Sarita Foster, who said she consistently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of students, families and staff.

“Her ability to build trust across diverse communities has helped strengthen the fabric of Leopold,” Foster said. “She brings a rare blend of cultural humility, organizational skill and genuine warmth that makes people feel seen and supported.”

In her role at Leopold, Diaz helps coordinate a number of community events and resources with her colleagues, ensuring all families feel welcomed and supported.

In addition to her role at Leopold, Cindy is an Adjunct Professor at Edgewood College, a Lead Partner for Racial Inclusion with the Dane County New Teacher Project, and a co-founder of the Maria del Rosario Educational Opportunity Scholarship Fund.

“Whether she’s organizing essential resources, building trust with families, or partnering with community organizations, she does it with a deep sense of purpose,” Foster said.

Diaz and her six fellow honorees will be celebrated at the YWCA Women of Distinction event on Wednesday, June 18.
