It’s award season for MMSD staff! This month, MMSD staff members across the district have earned three awards: the Civil Recognition Award by the City of Madison, North Star Awards by the Northside Planning Council, and the Lesli Ann Jordán-Vázquez Teaching with Kindness Award.

Civil Recognition Award: Sandburg Elementary Staff
Sandburg Elementary Principal Lori Lopez, Community Schools resource coordinator Jeremiah Covington, and fourth grade DLI teacher Jimena Maier are receiving this award for their commitment to excellence in community and civic engagement. District 17 alder Sabrina Madison will recognize the educators at the District 17 Community Engagement Dinner on Friday, Oct. 27 at Sandburg.

North Star Awards: Lake View Elementary Staff and Scholar
Multiple school leaders earned this award from the Northside Planning Council, nominated by their neighbors, coworkers, and friends for making the north side of Madison a great place to work, learn, and play. Congratulations to Lake View Elementary Principal Nou Vang-Vue, family liaison Eve Ropel, and student Yasar; Shabazz High art teacher and instructional coach Rachel Schramm, Sherman Middle School scholar, and more.

Lesli Ann Jordán-Vázquez Teaching with Kindness Award: Memorial High ESL Teacher Anne Knezevic
This award was created in memory of Lesli Ann Jordan-Vázquez, a 2014 West High graduate and community member. Congratulations to Vel Phillips Memorial High School ESL teacher Anne Knezevic, who earned this recognition for her kindness, inclusivity, and equitable practices in the classroom.
