Use School Cafe for All Foods And Nutrition, Free and Reduced Meals System

Children need healthy meals to learn. MMSD offers healthy meals every school day. All of our menus in the USDA program are designed to meet USDA nutritional standards. Each menu is analyzed weekly, evaluating it using eight specific nutritional targets.

Some of our schools are eligible for Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge for the school year (see below for full list of schools). All students at these 16 CEP schools will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application. However, we will still be requesting applications from households with a student participating in the CEP. Completing the application is still necessary for other programs, and may be used to determine if your household is eligible for these additional benefits.

MMSD is using the service School Café to connect families to MMSD School Nutrition. Creating an account is quick and easy and will offer access to school menus, account balance, payment options, and the ability to apply and see the status of your free and reduced lunch application.

Here is what you need to do:

  1. Create your account on School Café.
You will need your students school ID number to create an account.
Please reach out to you school for this information if you are unable to locate it.
  2. Log back in to your School Café account
  3. Access school menus, account balance, payment options and the free and reduced lunch application

Once you have created or logged into your School Cafe account, click “make a payment” to pay fees or deposit funds via credit card or bank account information. Alternatively, you can send a check or cash ($50 limit) with your student to school, where they can add funds to their account with the food service provider.

School Café Login

If you receive notification on your student's meal balance, please read through carefully and act as necessary. You do not need to have a SchoolCafe account for your student to be served at school. MMSD Board Policy is to serve meals to students at school regardless of negative balance in order to support equitable access to full, nutritious meals during the school day in support of learning and good health. Please address any questions to food@madison.k12.wi.us. Thank you!

MMSD Food and Nutrition believes that good nutrition is a key to learning. Last year, we proudly served more than 1.5 million meals to our students.
