Join us in celebrating 15 years of Read Your Heart Out

Read Your Heart Out is a celebration of National African-American Parental Involvement day, literacy and African-American history that began 15 years ago. Each year, guests go into Madison schools to read with students. The event brings families, community members, students and staff together to engage in literacy activities and strengthen relationships.

Next month, schools across the district will hold Read Your Heart Out events. Are you interested in reading to students? Register to volunteer at

In our last newsletter, we told you about our design contest. We want to see Black Excellence through your eyes. We're looking for students interested in illustrating what Black Excellence means to them in a graphic design. Submit original artwork by Friday, February 1st for a chance to be featured on district material, including t-shirts during Black History Month and beyond. Find details about the contest on the website.
