Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year

Dear families,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer.

We are moving into the second year of our updated Strategic Framework, our roadmap to raising achievement for all students and eliminating the gaps in opportunity that lead to disparities in achievement. We will continue to build on the goals laid out in that strategy:

  • Every child on track to graduate college, career and community ready

  • The district and every school in it is a place where children, staff and families thrive

  • African-American children and youth excel in school

And next Monday, August 26th, we’ll report out on our progress over the last school year. Watch for information in your email and on our website about our annual report.

We hope you have a great start to the new school year!

Sincerely,

Jane Belmore
Interim Superintendent

Back to school information

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3 for all elementary students, 6th grade students and 9th grade students. All other middle and high school students attend on Wednesday, September 4. Check the school year calendar for details.

Visit mmsd.org/backtoschool for all your back-to-school needs!

Are you ready? New start/dismissal times begin soon!

As you may know, new start/dismissal times for some Madison middle schools and all elementary schools begin in September. New start/dismissal times mean new bus schedules and drop-off times for our students. We expect delays during the first couple of weeks as our drivers and schools adjust to new routes. We ask for your patience as everyone gets used to the changes.

You can view your child's specific bus route in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.

  1. Log in to the Parent Portal

  2. Select the Transportation tab

  3. You will see your child's bus/color, pick-up/drop-off times and the bus stop location

If you have questions, please reach out to your school’s principal. You can also find information on our website.

Revision to the MMSD school year calendar for high school students

We made two small revisions to the MMSD school year calendar:

  1. Wednesday, April 15, will now be an ACT Aspire testing day for grades 9 and 10; grades 11 and 12 will have no school that day.ACT Aspire assesses students in grades 9 and 10 for readiness in English, mathematics, reading, science and writing. These scores predict future ACT scores and WorkKeys level of achievement.

  2. Shabazz Scheduling, previously scheduled for August 27, has been moved to August 28 from 9am-12pm.

You can view or download the updated calendar at mmsd.org/calendar.
