Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is there a cost for the meals?

No. Meals will be provided free of charge to all students regardless of free, reduced or paid status eligibility.

Who is eligible to receive meals?
Any student is eligible to pick up free meals.

How do I qualify for free or reduced meals when we return to in school learning or for additional fee waivers in MMSD?
Each school year families can apply for free or reduced-priced meals. Visit our website to fill out an application. If you have any questions, please call (608) 204-4003.

Can I take meals for adults in my family or are these just for children?
No, the meals are only for children that are currently enrolled in MMSD.

Does my child have to be present when I pick up their meals?
No. If a child is unable to be present when picking up their meals, a parent, guardian, or sibling can pick up meals for the enrolled student. Please have the child’s name, student ID#, and school location available at pickup.

Are you able to provide contact-free pick up?
Yes! While each site operates differently based on their space, families are able to pick their own boxes from a table or drive up in their car to receive boxes.  When driving, please pull up close to the truck. If you open your trunk, staff will put your box into the trunk. Staff are directed not to put boxes directly into the car. Thank you for helping maintain six feet of social distancing at all times.

Are there alternative options for children with food allergies and other special dietary needs?
Yes, please review our website or email for further information and requests.  Although MMSD Food & Nutrition meals do not contain peanuts, we are not a peanut free facility.

Do I have a choice of meals?
Yes.  For your convenience the boxes are packed with five days of breakfasts and lunches.  However if you would only like 1 - 4 days, meal entrees can be selected individually.  Please have your requests ready upon arrival for pickup. Exact items in the box may vary depending on the availability of items. Sometimes supply, food delivery, or other issues result in last minute substitutions. Thank you for your understanding.

Will meals be available during the weekend, too?
No, meal boxes are not available for pick-up on the weekends.

My student attends a Community Eligibility Provision School.  Are they eligible for free meals during virtual learning this fall?
Yes, all students who are enrolled at a CEP school in the current year are eligible to receive the Market food box containing 10 meals this fall. Please use the on-line ordering form on the Food & Nutrition website in MMSD to access the form.
