Disability Insurance

Short-Term Disability  (100% paid by Employee)

The Short-Term Disability (STD) plan provides 66.67% of salary continuation if you are disabled and unable to work.   The plan begins paying after a 14 calendar day wait period. During the wait period, you can use accumulated time off benefits (such as Personal Illness time) to supplement your income, or you can take the time off unpaid. 

Long-Term Disability (100% paid by MMSD)

Madison Metropolitan School District provides all benefits-eligible employees with long-term disability insurance (LTD), paid for 100% by the Madison Metropolitan School District.

The Long-Term Disability (LTD) plan provides 80% salary continuation if disabled and unable to work from your own occupation.  The plan begins paying after a 75 calendar day wait period.  During the wait period, you can use accumulated time off benefits (such as Personal Illness time) to supplement your income, or you can take the time off unpaid.  Benefit eligible employees are automatically enrolled at no employee cost.   

If you are disabled and unable to work, please complete the LTD application and return it to the Benefits Division.  The Benefits Division will work with you and the LTD insurance carrier on filing your claim.
