Consistent school attendance is one of the building blocks for student success.
Good attendance contributes to students doing well in school and eventually in the workplace.
Students who are enrolled to attend in-person instruction will be marked present, tardy or absent each day that instruction is offered in-building. Time of arrival or departure for students arriving late or leaving early will be noted in “comments” for contract tracing purposes if needed.
Students attending virtually will continue to follow previously published virtual attendance expectations and will be marked present when they:
Attend the synchronous, or live, real-time instruction
Complete and submit an asynchronous, or independent learning task assigned by the teacher on the virtual learning platform
Engage in two-way communication (phone call, email exchange, or office hours virtual visit) with the homeroom teacher and any specials teacher they are scheduled to receive instruction from that day.
Safe Arrival Calls:
Schools will resume making safe arrival calls for in-person rostered students.
Guardian Absence Reporting Expectations:
In-person Learners: If a student rostered for in-person learning is unable to attend in person on a day when instruction is offered in the building, their parent/guardian should report the reason for this absence to their child’s school as soon as possible by calling the school’s attendance line or using the online attendance reporting app.
Virtual Learners: If a student rostered for virtual learning is unable to meet virtual attendance expectations, their parent/guardian should report the reason for this absence to their child’s school as soon as possible by calling the school’s attendance line or using the online attendance reporting app.
K-12 Monday Attendance Beginning March 8th
Beginning March 8th, Mondays will become asynchronous learning days for all Middle and High/Secondary students and synchronous virtual learning will be available Tuesday through Friday.
As a part of the change in schedule, all students will be attending on asynchronous days by completing assigned work, getting additional support as needed, or connecting with virtual mentors. Due to the flexibility in this approach, staff will presumptively submit all students as “present” when taking attendance on Mondays.
We will continue to ask that you, as families, communicate with your school office by calling the attendance line or using the attendance web app to provide an excusable reason if your student will not be attending on Monday.
We are truly hoping this shift will help reduce stress for all involved, by allowing time and space for more focus on relationship, engagement, and wellbeing as we all adjust to our new weekly schedule.
