Dental insurance is available to employees who work at least a 50% FTE position or 19 hours per week. The District offers two dental insurance plans, the Base Plan and the Buy-Up Plan through Delta Dental of Wisconsin. The district pays 90% of the premium for the Base Plan and employees pay the rest regardless of whether the employee selects the Base Plan or the Buy-Up Plan. The plans are similar except the Buy-Up Plan has a higher annual maximum benefit and does not have a deductible.
Under the District’s plan, you can see any dental provider, however, you will maximize your benefit by using a Delta PPO or Delta Premier provider. Delta’s PPO dentists provide the largest discounts and therefore, you get the most out of your benefit. Delta’s Premier dentists also provide a discount although the discount is smaller. If you use a non-Premier or non-PPO dentist, you’ll still receive a benefit, but your maximum benefit won’t go as far because they don’t offer Delta enrollees any discount. For more information on choosing a dentist, see the Finding a Provider flyer under Plan Information. To see if your dentist is a Delta PPO or Premier dentist, use the Find-a-Provider link.
Check the Monthly Insurance Premiums link on the right to find out how much you’ll pay for the District’s dental insurance plan.
In addition to the dental plan, Delta offers discounts for hearing aids and prescription glasses. Details can be found in the Resources box on this page.

Dental expenses are all eligible expenses for Health Care Flexible Spending. Consider enrolling in a flex spending plan (FSA) to help reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.
Also, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends children first visit a dentist at the eruption of their first tooth and no later than 12 months of age. So, reach out to your MMSD Benefits team today to add your infant to your dental coverage.
