Crestwood Principal Britta Hanson organized a morning of collaborative, long-term planning for her teachers. The result for 2nd grade students was their proud involvement with researching and creating insect informational books worthy of the shelves of any Barnes & Noble.

The teachers, Karen Lenoch, Ben Kaker, Jennifer Herdina, Connie Allan, Marcy Gurovitsch, Katrina Ladopolous and Natasha Williams worked to create an experience these students will likely never forget. Through inquiry and the use of the writing process, they created insect books, sharing with parents, volunteers, district representatives, as well as a 5th grade classroom. This was not an ordinary event - these kids were not only able to articulate the content within their insect books, but were able to use academic vocabulary to extend their thinking about the research and the writing process.

At the end of the day, you could see that every student in the room had a smile upon their face, proud of the hard work they had completed. Congratulations to the students, teachers, and Principal Hanson at Crestwood. Well done!
