All MMSD Kindergarten through 8th grade students will receive reading kits to help them dive into literacy this summer! Each kit features grade-level, culturally-relevant books for students to enjoy. A pep-rally style Summer Literacy Launch is taking place Wednesday, June 9 at Orchard Ridge Elementary School and Whitehorse Middle School. Watch the events live at 9 a.m. and 10:30 on MMSD's Facebook page:
The outdoor event will include music from members of James Madison Memorial High School Bands, a summer kit distribution, and words of encouragement from Superintendent Carlton D. Jenkins and other senior leaders. In addition, ORE Principal Becky Kundert and Whitehorse Principal Amy Wederath will preview the contents of the reading kits to students.
As part of MMSD’s commitment to early literacy, we are excited to promote reading as an important summer activity. Thank you to MMSD’s Curriculum and Instruction Department for making this investment in our students!
Stay tuned to MMSD social media tomorrow to see some highlights from the events!
