In September 2015 our three-year license for Typing Pal will expire. The Instructional Technology team has been investigating other curricula to support keyboarding instruction in grades 3-8 and discovered Typing.com. This program is comparable to Typing Pal and is also available at no cost. Typing.com also works on tablets and Chromebooks and allows teachers and students to sign in with their MMSD Google Account.  We have communicated this change with Middle School Computer teachers and with Elementary Keyboarding Contacts. We are recommending that the guidelines for the amount of time of instruction and proficiencies for grading stay the same even though we are changing programs. Ideally, keyboarding instruction should begin in the fall and continue to be reinforced throughout the school year. Read more about Typing Pal

Elementary keyboarding contacts received an email letting them know about the proposed change last Monday. An email will go out by the end of this week with additional materials and resources for training when needed. The materials are located here.

Middle School

Middle School keyboarding contacts have received information about the proposed keyboarding program change and engaged in discussion and trial during their last three third Mondays. They will receive additional training this fall and throughout the 2015-16 school year. They will be able to access keyboarding training when needed here.
