Learn more about our students, educators, and schools!
As the second largest school district in the state, the Madison Metropolitan School District has a simple but bold vision – to ensure that every school is a thriving school that prepares every student to graduate from high school ready for college, career and community.
We know this vision doesn’t come to life without dynamic leaders in every school. We are focused on becoming a model urban school district that serves our children and families better than ever before. If you are a leader who is passionate about changing the face of urban education, MMSD has something to offer you.
We have made exciting progress as a district, and we believe it will take three main things to continue to move us forward. As leaders in our district, our principals embody these core beliefs.
Sustained Focus: We believe that sustained focus and excellent execution will ensure that we can accelerate performance for all students.
Schools at the Center: We believe that schools must be at the center of our strategy because teachers, principals and their communities know their students best and have the will and skill to be successful.
Excellence and Equity: We believe that we must commit to a culture of excellence and equity for all students and all educators.
Principals receive ongoing support through monthly principal meetings, quarterly leadership institutes together with school leadership teams and targeted, on-site support. As leaders in our district, principals weigh in on decision making processes and are asked to advise the superintendent on major issues.
Central Office Support
While schools will be focused on implementing their school improvement plans, central office is focused on five major priorities — all aimed at providing the tools and resources needed to serve students and removing the institutional barriers to student success.
