The Madison Metropolitan School District strives to provide an environment where every student, employee, applicant, family member and visitor feels supported, respected, and welcomed, where every student can learn in an atmosphere that is free from harassment and discrimination, and where every staff member can serve students in an atmosphere that is free from harassment and discrimination. The District prohibits sex-based discrimination, and will respond to all reports of sexual misconduct as well as sexual harassment or sexual violence (including assault, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and sexual exploitation) with care and support.
Madison Metropolitan School District’s Title IX Office receives reports of sexual misconduct involving the MMSD community, coordinates supportive measures, provides information about response options, and conducts or oversees related investigations. All of these duties are guided by a trauma-informed approach that also embraces principles of equity and ensures due process. This website is designed to be a resource for students, staff, and volunteers on issues relating to sexual misconduct and sex-based discrimination, including options for getting help, MMSD’s policies regarding sexual misconduct, and how to report a concern.
What is Title IX?
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination. Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment, sexual violence, sex-based misconduct, relationship violence, discrimination based on pregnancy, and the failure to provide equal opportunities in employment, admission, enrollment, or any educational programs or activities.
MMSD adheres to all federal, state, and local civil rights laws prohibiting discrimination in employment and education. MMSD does not discriminate in its enrollment practices, in its employment practices, or in its educational programs or activities on the basis of sex. MMSD is required by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 to ensure that all of its programs and activities do not discriminate on the basis of sex and in compliance with Title IX, MMSD will not tolerate discrimination or harassing conduct that is based on sex, or any other protected status.
MMSD recognizes our shared responsibility to create a culture that does not tolerate sexual discrimination, and we remain committed to preventing sex discrimination and responding to all forms of sexual harassment or sexual violence. We will continue to be a community in which survivors are supported and fair processes are followed. Most importantly, we remain committed to supporting an inclusive, respectful, and caring community.
All MMSD staff, volunteers, vendors, contractors, and consultants are required to use the ‘Notice Requirements’ outlined in the MMSD Procedure Manual for Sexual Harassment (Title IX), Policy 8012A. Only a student, parent or guardian, or member of the public may choose to report an allegation anonymously. We are not able to guarantee that your report will remain confidential. Title IX Training Requirements
20 USC. §§1681-1688 (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972) and 34 C.F.R. Part 106, implementing regulations (collectively “Title IX”) require recipients to publish all materials used to train Title IX Coordinators, Investigators, Decision-Makers, and any person who facilitates an informal resolution process. This training must be made publicly available for inspection.
