Library Media Annual Report

MMSD Libraries began implementing a new Long Range Plan in 2023-24. See below how the Library Department & LMTS took steps toward our goals this past year.

The annual report outlines MMSD Libraries progress on three main goals:

Long Range Plan Goals

Goal 1: Belonging

Action items:

We will build culturally and linguistically diverse library collections that represent all learners.
We will organize our libraries for student access, independence, and engagement.
We will ensure student access to engaging library programming that fosters the love of reading.

Goal 2: Instruction

Action items:

We will provide our learners with library and information skills that enhance classroom learning
We will use high-leverage instructional strategies to effectively deliver library skills instruction.
We will increase collaborative instructional partnerships with school staff for cohesive learning experiences

Goal 2 Outcomes:

We are building out curricular scopes and resources to guide library instructional needs.
We focused on Learning Targets in PD this year and will lean into Checks for Understanding next year as we continue to develop lesson design skills.
Next year teachers, across K-8 will join LMTS during library time, collaborating to help students select books and build information literacy skills

Goal 3: Leadership

Action items:

We will develop advocacy, outreach, communication, and PD delivery skills.
We will share our library materials, resources, and support opportunities with our school and district communities
We will expand opportunities for LMTS to take their next step in learning and leading.

Goal 3 Outcomes:

48 Certified School librarians
67 Volunteers onboarded to support LMCs
193 Coaching visits to MMSD libraries focusing on new LMTS, principal & LMTS requests
2.3 Library assistants district-wide
Additional activities include:
- Sandbox Days: professional development featuring library resources
- Role Alike & New LMTS Meetings
- Library Leadership Team and Action Teams
- WEMTA Conference: 15 LMTS attended, 5 presented
- Vendor Fair: Self-guided learning & networking for MMSD & outside librarians
