Late this afternoon Dane County school districts received guidance from Madison Dane County Public Health

In sum, they recommend:

  • Keeping schools open unless there has been a confirmed case of a student or staff member in a school.

  • Cancelling or postponing large events and gatherings.

  • People at a higher risk of illness staying home and away from large groups.

  • Postponing or cancelling personal travel to travel areas with coronavirus, including during spring break.

  • Implementing social distancing measures.

We plan to follow this guidance. As you can imagine, this will involve some immediate complex planning and decision making and we are working in collaboration with principals on this.

Undoubtedly, you will have many questions for your principal and for district administrators. We are tracking questions and working on providing answers as quickly as possible. I would ask that, to the greatest extent possible, staff and families give principals the time and space they need to communicate decisions to you.

As much as possible, please look for updates on our website, mmsd.org/covid19. As soon as we have answers to questions, they will be posted there. On Friday, we will be providing a weekly update, including answers to frequently asked questions, via email and on our website.

Again, I appreciate your patience during this challenging time.

Take care of yourself and each other,

Jane Belmore

Interim Superintendent
