Behavioral Health in Schools (BHS)

Behavioral Health in Schools (BHS) seeks to improve well-being among students with mental health concerns. Through a partnership with Children’s Wisconsin, BHS enhances the school's existing system of mental health supports. BHS is based on a culturally responsive, trauma-informed, data-driven, and family-based approach. BHS focuses on addressing the unmet mental health needs of students and their families.

The program integrates a mental health clinician who actively collaborates with the Student Services team and provides individual treatment to students who are experiencing barriers to accessing community-based mental health care. The BHS provider improves the school's capacity for addressing mental health concerns through direct service, consultation, teaming, and collaboration.

The program is currently running in 16 schools: Anana, Henderson, Lake View, Leopold, Lowell, Mendota, Midvale, Nuestro Mundo, Orchard Ridge, Schenk, Southside, Black Hawk, Cherokee Heights, Sennett, Toki, Wright. Referrals are made through building-level Student Services Teams and require parent/guardian consent.
