On November 9, nine MSCR East High participants attended the American Civil Liberties Unions' (ACLU) Youth Social Justice Forum at UW-Milwaukee. The Youth Social Justice Forum used hands-on workshops, realistic role-playing activities and issues from the news to teach students about their rights.
Participants learned about new media, public art, civics and government, bullying, racial profiling, LGBTQ+ rights, restorative justice and other topics relevant to youth rights and responsibilities. Teens also watched a mock debate and participated in a mock election using real voting machines supplied by the City of Milwaukee Election Commission.
This was a free event and MSCR hopes to bring more students next year. Goodman Community Center helped sponsor the event.
