Recently Muir was honored as a 2016 'Mix It Up Model School' by Teaching Tolerance.  In both November and February Muir celebrated its own "Mix It Up Monday" with special lunches, "encourage[ing] students to identify, question and cross social boundaries".  Students received a colored card upon entering the lunchroom and then sat at a lunch table with a corresponding balloon color.  At our first lunch kinder, 4th and 5th graders were "mixed" and 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders were mixed.  We prompted students with "Would you rather...?" conversation starters to help kids step outside of their comfort zone and meet new friends!  Classroom teachers continued to encourage the spirit of "Mix It Up Monday" with social skills-centered Morning Meeting activities throughout the month.
