A webinar is an online meeting space that allows colleagues and community members to collaborate at a distance. Google Hangouts offers small webinar spaces (up to 15 people). For virtual meetings with more than 15 people, MMSD uses WebEx, a webinar platform by Cisco that supports up to 200 people in the same collaborative meeting room.
WebEx allows hosts (moderators) to share their screens, webcams, presentations, and interactive whiteboard with other attendees. Attendees can talk or type in the Chat, and the entire session can be recorded for further viewings later. Webinars can be useful for collaboration across larger instructional teams, support teams, and administrative teams. Attendees do not need to be MMSD employees to be a participant in a meeting.
