Crestwood Elementary Outdoor Ed Receives Grant for Organic Apple Orchard

students and staff in front of school

On Monday, May 14th, the Crestwood Outdoor Education Committee received wonderful news. The school was selected as a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant winner.

This grant from the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation will support supplies and trees for an organic apple orchard at Crestwood. Prior to submitting this grant last fall, the Outdoor Education Committee met with Rebecca Harbut, UW Fruit Extension Specialist, and discussed what it would take to establish an organic apple orchard at the school.

The goal for this project is for Crestwood children to experience firsthand where food comes from and what it takes to grow it sustainably, organically and locally.

Everyone at the school is excited to begin preparations for their orchard!
