From Management to Engagement: Strategies for Working with Students in Outdoor Classrooms
Outdoor learning brings benefits in terms of students’ engagement, health and wellbeing, but it can also bring challenges in terms of behavior management. How do I get kids to stay focused when there are birds flying, flowers blooming, bees buzzing, sun shining and people passing by? How do I get kids who don’t want to get dirty, to sit on the grass or dig in the soil? ... and other challenges faced by teachers across our schools.
Courtney Woods (Kindergarten, Lowell Elementary School) and Josie Guiney (4th, Lincoln Elementary School) will share tried-and-true strategies for managing groups of students in an outdoor environment at the next Outdoor Learning Network event co-hosted by Sustain Dane's Outdoor Learning Network and MMSD Department of Curriculum & Instruction.
