MSCR Experiential and Environmental Field Trip OpportunitiesWe are excited to begin the school year and offer high quality, safety conscious and engaging outdoor experiential programs for youth and adults! Madison is one of the 7 cities in the country chosen for the national initiative of Connecting Children to Nature and we are excited to support getting youth outside. We offer low and high challenge course activities, canoeing, kayaking, field studies and overnight camping! Thank you for all you do to connect youth to these opportunities.

Fee information:

  • Environmental Education/Field Study Fees:  $2 per child, fee includes busing paid if you follow the procedures listed below.

  • Team Building/Challenge Course Fees: Low course programs: $75 per program, High Course programs: $150 per program

  • Paddling Fees: Introduction to paddling (canoe or kayak, up to 2 hours) $50, Paddling trips or full paddling days with multiple classes: $100 per day

  • School Forest Campground Fees: Free! Reservations for outdoor classroom usage or overnight camping are available to any MMSD classroom or group free of charge.

Please note that all fees follow MMSD Policies and Procedures 5012: “No one may be denied access to MSCR programs based on inability to pay fees. MSCR youth program fees may be partially or fully waived on request for those persons meeting the criteria for free or reduced lunch. Participants are encouraged to pay a partial fee.“ Therefore if fee assistance is needed, please let the MSCR Experiential Programs Specialist know.

Bus reservations/reimbursements: Organizing transportation for all trips is the responsibility of the schools. Busing invoices can be paid with district funding only if they meet the following criteria:

  • Transportation must be to and from an environmental education field study program. There can be no additional stops or trips accounted for on the invoice or they cannot be reimbursed.
  • Only invoices from Badger Bus Lines will be reimbursed due to our standing Pupil Transportation Contract. Invoices from other transportation carriers cannot be reimbursed by the district as we cannot account for their price variations.

Invoices must only include travel during non-peak travel times, outlined in the Pupil Transportation Contract. Designated program times for Environmental Education Field Studies have been selected to help make sure travel falls within non-peak travel time.

There are also opportunities to cover costs associated with busing, including Nature Net which offers bus funding if you schedule two thematically-related field trips to any Nature Net site. See more information about Nature Express. We highly recommend educators take advantage of these opportunities.
