Speak Up, Speak Out Threat Reporting System

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Office of School Safety has created a comprehensive, one-stop place to turn to with concerns regarding school safety.  Anyone can submit a school safety concern by downloading the SUSO app (Android and iOS), visiting speakup.widoj.gov, or by calling 1-800-MY-SUSO-1. Resource Center staff work around the clock to respond to reports and to deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement, and counselors. 

Safe Kids Madison Area

Safe Kids Madison Area is led by American Family Children's Hospital, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support and other resources to help keep kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.

Madison Fire Department

The Madison Fire Department offers information on fire safety, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide, children at home alone and more. 

Safety Town (City of Madison)

Safety Town is a program designed for children entering kindergarten in the fall which teaches children how to be safe in their community. Safety Town uses hands-on activities to teach children about many different aspects of safety and injury prevention.

Bike Madison (City of Madison)

Bike Madison offers programs to teach children how to ride safely including:

• A school based program which involves a combination of classroom and on bike instruction.
• After school and summer camp bike clubs which takes kids on organized rides to teach them the basics of riding safely.
• An interactive display illustrating how to handle various traffic situations. This is suitable for a program such as a health fair.
• A bicycle rodeo where children go through various stations learning how to enter the street safely, how to make turns and ride safely on sidewalks.

Protect Kids Online [PKO] podcast

The PKO Podcast is brought to you by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.  Each episode is approximately 15 minutes and discusses topics like “App of the Week,” tips for combating online child exploitation, bullying and healthy online habits. The American Academy of Pediatrics' HealthyChildren.org Safety & Prevention section connects you to information to help keep kids safe. Topics include fire safety, dog bite prevention, backyard safety, over-the-counter medications, backpack safety, bicycle safety and more.
