The Office of School Safety strives to create learning spaces where all scholars can thrive.
We want our schools to be a safe and welcoming environments that nurture academic excellence as well as the social-emotional and physical well-being of all students, staff, and families. We believe the safest schools are those that foster a climate of support and respect and instill a sense of community. School security, incident response and threat assessments are vital components as well.
Our Dedicated Safety Professionals:
- Review and improve site safety plans on an ongoing basis.
- Supervise security staff to help prevent and solve issues.
- Provide resources and support for crisis situations that might occur; such as severe weather or threats.
- Collaborate with MMSD departments to help reduce acts of violence.
- Coordinate with community responders such as the Madison Police Department (MPD), Madison Fire Department (MFD) and other emergency responders.
School Based Support Teams
Safe schools are schools in which all students – especially those experiencing barriers to success in areas such as attendance, behavior, and physical or mental health – can access high-quality instruction. Our School Based Support Teams design and deliver support in these areas that actively work to promote school safety.
Report a Safety Concern
Everyone plays an important role in school safety. Students, families, school staff and community members can submit a school safety concern by downloading the SUSO app (Android and iOS), visiting speakup.widoj.gov, or by calling 1-800-MY-SUSO-1.
