Volunteer Tutor Training

The Tutoring Network, a citywide coalition of volunteer-based tutoring program providers that serve MMSD students during and after school, will host a Volunteer Tutor Training Workshop for prospective and current volunteer tutors.

As the 2021-2022 school year will begin in September, the training offerings and platforms will be updated. Please check back!

Workshop Topics
• Basics of Literacy Tutoring, K-5
• Basics of Literacy Tutoring, 6-8
• Basics of Math Tutoring, 6-8
• The Culturally Responsive Tutor
• How Tutors Support English Language Learners (K-5 & 6-12)

The MMSD tutor trainings are led by MMSD staff. This training workshop is open to all new and continuing volunteer tutors. The most effective tutors are those that have been specifically trained for the job. Being a tutor is different than being a mentor or a classroom volunteer. These workshops teach tutors specific strategies to build effective relationships, guide learning and promote student confidence and competence.
