Madison Metropolitan School District has a lottery process for three middle schools:

Badger Rock Middle School

Badger Rock Admission Process:  Badger Rock is a charter school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments. The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list.

Priority will be given randomly to selected Applicants in the following order:

Tier 1: Applicants that are siblings of students who 1. are currently attending BRMS during the initial application period; and 2. will continue to be enrolled in Badger Rock Middle School in the following school year*.

Tier 2: Children of Badger Rock founders, governing board members, and full-time employees shall be granted admission. The following individuals are designated as Badger Rock Middle School Founders: (Jamie Domini, Nan Youngerman, Sara Alvarado, Brenda Baker, Kristen Joiner, David Wasserman, Jay Affeldt, Mark Wagler, Tom Mosgaller, Susana Vasquez Garcia, Kathy Price, Isadora Knox and Wayne Strong.). The total number of children given preference under this paragraph may constitute no more than 10 percent of BRMS’s total enrollment.

Wait List: Applications Received After Application Date:  In the event additional applications are received from Applicants after the application date, those Applicants shall be admitted in the order received (if seats are available), or added to the end of the waiting list established for Applicants in the order received (if seats are unavailable). Wait Lists rolls to the next school year through the end of 8th grade year.

Badger Rock Middle School Lottery Application Timeline:

  • December 1, 2023 - Lottery opens 8:00am
  • January 18, 2024 - Open House (Via Zoom), 5:30 - 6:30pm
  • January 19, 2024 - Open House (In-Person), 5:30 to 7:30
  • January 26, 2024 - Lottery closes 4:00pm
  • February 19, 2024 - Lottery results will be sent to families this week
  • March 1, 2024 - Accept or decline confirmation due to schools from families

Spring Harbor Middle School

Spring Harbor Admission Process: Spring Harbor is a Magnet school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments. The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list. The requirements for admission into Spring Harbor Middle School are that a student lives within the Memorial High School attendance area. A lottery will be conducted if interest in attendance at the Magnet school exceeds the authorized student enrollment.

Weighing of the Lottery: Ninety students will be admitted in 6th grade. All other students will automatically go on a waitlist.

Tier 1: Student’s primary home address resides in the former Spring Harbor attendance area - address specific.

Tier 2: Applicants who reside within the Memorial High School attendance area and are siblings of students who 1. Spring Harbor in grade 6th or 7th during the application window; and 2. will continue to be enrolled in Spring Harbor in the following school year.

Tier 3: Student resides in the Memorial High School attendance area. An equal number of students from Gillespie and from Toki should be selected.

Wait Listed: Student resides outside of the Memorial High School attendance area.

Wait Lists roll to the next school year through the end of 8th grade year.

Wright Middle School

Wright Admission Process: Wright is a Magnet school and offers 6th through 8th grade enrollments.  The lottery process is for 6th grade only, 7th and 8th grade students can apply separately to be added to the grade-level wait list.   The requirements for admission into Wright Middle school are that a student lives within the Elementary Schools feeding into West high. A lottery will be conducted if interest in attendance at the Magnet school exceeds the authorized student enrollment.

Weighing of the Lottery:  The 90 students who will be admitted in 6th grade are selected from the Elementary attendance area feeding into West High. The remaining students are waitlisted in order of applying. Applicants outside of the qualifying Elementary footprint are held out of lottery and put at the bottom of the WL.

Tier 1: Applicants with a sibling attending Wright Middle School regardless of whether the sibling lives within the West Attendance area.

Tier 2: Children of a current Wright staff member regardless of whether the child of the staff member lives within the West Attendance area. (Employed during the application window and continuing to next year.)

Tier 3: Children of Wright Advisory Board Members.

Tier 4: The student resides in an Elementary footprint that feeds into West attendance area.

Wait Listed: Student resides outside of the Elementary footprint that feeds into West attendance area.
