Fifty schools have $86,924 in endowment income to use to make grants.

FMPS maintains School Endowments for each of Madison’s fifty public schools.  Annual income from the endowments is used to support creative and innovative grants which enable projects and programs not otherwise funded through the core school budget.

It is important for your school to use its endowment income every year.  Please note that all school endowment grants must align with your School Improvement Plan, and technology-related grants must align with the MMSD Technology Plan. All funds awarded must be used by June 30, 2016.

The grant distribution process for the School Endowments is designed to be as simple as possible while working to ensure that we stay true to the initiative’s goal of funding creative, innovative projects that enrich student life and may not otherwise be possible.

Schools need to provide FMPS with a brief description of each of the grants you decide to award, highlighting the creativity and innovation of each. Include the name, phone number and email address of the project leader for each grant awarded. This information should be sent to the Foundation to the attention of Mary Bartzen at no later than October 31.

There are a number of documents available to help with the grant making process.  Many can be personalized for your school and can be found directly on the Foundation’s website.

Please contact Mary Bartzen, Community Partnerships Director at or 237-7723 with questions.
