The Madison Metropolitan School District is seeking candidates to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Education. The District's vision is that every school will be a thriving school that prepares every student to graduate ready for college, career and community. The district’s goals, core values and strategy for bringing this vision to life is outlined in its Strategic Framework at www.mmsd.org/framework.
Board members are charged with crucial decision-making related to policies, resource allocation and accountability for district progress. They also play an important role in engaging the community, soliciting input on key decisions, and listening to concerns and needs of students, families and staff.
All candidates must be 18 years of age and reside within the Madison Metropolitan School District. To be considered, a candidate must file a statement of interest of 700 words or less by July 19, 2019. A candidate’s statement of interest must include the following information:
Candidates telephone number
A statement of the qualities the candidate will bring to the Board that will enhance the Board’s decision-making
A statement as to what the candidate perceives as three critical issues/problems facing the District and a proposal to address/resolve the issues/problems
Any other information the the candidate deems appropriate and relevant
Please note that in accordance with Wisconsin state statute 17.26, the appointed candidate will serve a term through the upcoming spring election (April 2020). If the candidate is interested in continuing his or her role on the school board, he or she may run to complete the term for the vacant seat (set to expire in April 2021).
Interested individuals can file a statement of interest by sending such statement via email to email@example.com or may hand-deliver or submit a statement via regular U.S. mail to the President of the Board in care of the Superintendent, or designee, at 545 West Dayton Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53703. Statements of interest must be received by the District by 4 p.m. on July 19, 2019.
