Sherman students with Paula DofatPaula Dofat, the Director of College Counseling at The Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women (BLSYW), visited Sherman Middle School on December 18, 2017. Dofat and the young women from BLSYW are the subjects of STEP, the uplifting and feel-good movie of summer 2017. View the trailer (2:41).

STEP documents the senior year of a girls' high school step dance team against the background of inner-city Baltimore. As each one tries to become the first in their families to attend college, the girls strive to make their dancing a success against the backdrop of social unrest in the troubled city.

Dofat met with 8th grade students who had previously participated in a viewing of STEP

This was such a great experience for my kids. They had some awesome questions that were very personal to them and totally real. Paula was very honest with my students which I greatly appreciated!” - Sherman Principal Kristin Foreman
