This four-week online institute consists of eleven sessions in which participants complete a series of assignments on their own schedule as well as meet as a virtual group to collaborate, discuss, and share information with their MMSD colleagues. The four live sessions* are led by an expert in the week’s topic, and one session is devoted to a Q & A with the authors. School-based SIOP® coaching follows the virtual institute to extend the learning experience. This virtual institute is presented exclusively for MMSD staff.
*Live sessions will be held on Mondays @ 4:00 pm in April (April 4, 11, 18 and 25)
Fees and Credits
Participants’ virtual institute registration fees will be paid by the Office of Multilingual and Global Education. In addition, participants will be awarded 3.0 Professional Advancement Credits (PACs) for completion of the eleven sessions and related assignments.
The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP®) is a proven framework for teaching both academic content and language skills in ways that are more effective for English learners, and helps teachers plan and deliver lessons with all students’ language need in mind. General information about SIOP® Training for Teachers can be found at Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol website.
How to Register
The SIOP® Training for Teachers will be listed in the MMSD PD Catalog in the Spring courses, #1753. Participants must register themselves in the MMSD course to receive the related PACs.
