Evaluation
The evaluation process is used to determine if a child has a disability initially, and then to evaluate them every three years to ensure the student continues to meet eligibility criteria and has continued need for special education services. Evaluations are initiated by the parent or school when a student is suspected to have a disability. Parents or guardians of students who are homeschooled may contact MMSD to request an evaluation for their student. To ensure evaluations are conducted in a timely manner, DPI has determined the following evaluation timelines to be followed.
Evaluation Process
- Referral & Notice of Evaluation
- Review of Existing Data (within 15 business days of Notice of Reevaluation)
- Determine Eligibility (within 60 days of RED meeting or consent to conduct additional assessments)
- IEP and Placement (within 30 days of eligibility determination if student meets criteria)
