Looking to become more inclusive LGBTQ+ students, families and staff in your building?  We are so fortunate to have our partners from Welcoming Schools and Gender Spectrum back this summer to help our district develop inclusive, welcoming learning environments for LGBTQ+ youth and families. This equity work ensures safer, more affirming schools for all of our students in MMSD.

We have 2 separate sessions this year:

--- The 1st is a Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum 101 and is open to all MMSD staff.  Join us if you are new to this work or would like a refresher!

--- The 2nd is an Advanced two-day course for WS/GS Partner Schools and school-based teams.  (If your school is interested in partnering with Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum, please LMK. We have 1 more opening for 2016-2017).

Registration is now OPEN on the PD Portal. Please consider posting the attached flier in your building or forwarding it to your building staff. We hope that you (and better yet, a team from your school) decide to join us!

Introduction to Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum - August 10

Participants will obtain professional development tools, lessons, and resources focused on embracing family diversity, celebrating gender inclusivity, and ending bias-based bullying. Day One will be for beginners and will cover Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum 101, as well as a panel of parents of transgender & gender-expansive youth. Register for Course #1995 (1 Credit; from 8:15am-3:45pm at Goodman Community Center).

Advanced Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum institute for Partner Schools and School-based teams - August 11 & 12

These two days are for Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum partner school teams. (If you are interested in leading this work in your building and have advanced knowledge around WS/GS approaches, but you are not a WS/GS school partner, please contact instructor).

--- There will be dedicated time for WS/GS Partner Schools to reflect, network, plan, and share promising practices around Welcoming Schools team development, school-wide professional development, family involvement, and curriculum.

--- Through an intensive trainer of trainers format with Welcoming Schools & Gender Spectrum professional development modules, participants will leave prepared to guide staff around the principles, design, and structure of the Gender Inclusive Schools. Register for Course #1997 (2 Credits; from 9:15am-4:00pm at Madison Central Library).
