The Voices in our Community Project has been selected by The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) for Outstanding Program. Jani Koester, TEP Resource Teacher and co-founder of this project, recently accepted this award on behalf of TEP and the Greater Madison Writing Project at the NAEHCY conference in Phoenix, AZ.
This award is given annually to an individual(s) or group that shows a great understanding of the needs of children and youth experiencing homelessness as demonstrated in efforts to:
- Conduct service projects to assist homeless children, youth and families.
- Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for children and youth experiencing homelessness in their school.
- Increase school and community awareness of homelessness.
- Provide an educational benefit to students
